Identity Cloaker Discount Weekend

(While this offer is officially over I have been told recently that the discount code is still working!)

As a special treat I asked the guys over at Identity Cloaker if we could have a special offer for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and they agreed!

15% Identity Cloaker Discount for Black Friday and Cyber Monday

So for the first time EVER we have an Identity Cloaker discount code for you. Yes an up front discount for Identity Cloaker, take out any full subscription and enjoy 15% off the regular price for Identity Cloaker. Of course for maximum savings I would take out a years subscription (you have the 14 day money back guarantee as well of course). This discount code is valid until the 4th December 2010 CET time, so you could always get the 10 day trial for now and then upgrade to the full version, just remember to do so before the 4th December CET time!

As we all know Identity Cloaker is one of the best value products around, offering over 260 different IPs in 9 different countries. Now most of you use this to enjoy US and British TV abroad, however don't forget there are TV stations in Canada, Ireland and most of Europe too. Of course you can still use Identity Cloaker for its original purpose too! That is keeping yourself secure online, with its 256bit encryption Identity Cloaker offers levels of security that were unheard of just a few years ago. Oh and for those in the US lets not forget certain online activities such as gambling which are banned in the US are quite legal in other parts of the world…

OK enough chat! How do you get this Identity Cloaker discount special? Easy. On the order form simply use the code:

3E9E264B

in the coupon section, its at the bottom of the order form:

Enter your code on the Identity Cloaker Discount Order Form

The discount will be applied instantly, giving you a years access to Identity Cloaker for as little as 68 Euros! That's a year of access to all the advantages of using an anonymous proxy, including of course the most popular British TV through BBC iPlayer abroad, for under 6 Euros a month!

BBC Global iPlayer

Doing the rounds again is the news that the BBC will be launching a global iPlayer for those living outside the UK.

Great we can all cancel out subscriptions to Identity Cloaker!!! er…. Well… Probably not.

There are a number of things to consider, not least of which is that BBC Global iPlayer is not going to be free either. In fact given that the BBC has already stated that people will be willing to pay up to 10 pounds a show, that more than an entire months subscription to Identity Cloaker! There is also the simple fact that this will be a select service, there is NO way it will include all the content broadcast by the BBC and included on the proper iPlayer Website. Why? Well just consider F1 racing, they do not have (and never will have) the rights to broadcast this online internationally. Equally shows which the BBC do not directly own will require special permission to be broadcast, something they are unlikely to bother with.

So what will be on BBC Global iPlayer? Well lets take a guess that you will be getting Doctor Who, Top Gear and Eastenders for sure. However would you be willing to pay so much just to watch these shows?

At the moment there is no timeframe for the deployment of the Global iPlayer (past attempts have been blocked by other UK and European TV companies, and this may well happen again), it has however been stated it will be sometime in 2011. So right now if you want to watch BBC iPlayer abroad your best bet is still Identity Cloaker. In 12 months time I would say 99% your best bet to be watching iPlayer outside the UK will still be Identity Cloaker and not BBC Global iPlayer.

Free iPlayer Abroad

I have had a few emails recently about the ability to watch BBC iPlayer abroad for free and if this is a valid solution. Well…

Firstly it is 100% true you can do it for free, there are many things you pay for every day which you can get for free. You don't need to pay rent or a mortgage if you are willing to live under a tree, and you can always eat for free from the bins outside the supermarkets. While both options are free I don't think many of you would choose to live that way!

Watching BBC iPlayer for free generally requires the use of open proxy servers, which are both unreliable and a pain to find. There are various programs out there which will track these down for you, and then you can take the information and manually enter it in to your browser or proxy program and then IF the server is fast enough you will be able to watch iPlayer abroad for free…for a while… perhaps…

The issue is they are just not reliable, you will find that they only work for a very short period before they are either turned off or just simply swamped by the thousands of other people using them. So you will be forced to search over and over again for new proxies, wasting hours of time. Liken this to needing to retune you TV every time you turn it on and then again every 20 minutes of viewing. Annoying? Certainly!

There are also security risks, as you have no idea who is running the proxy and what they are doing with all the data you are passing through them (a quick look over at change-my-ip.com will reveal many of the dangers of public proxies!).

Running with a professional and secure private proxy company such as Identity Cloaker costs under $10 a month, saves you a lot of time and it works (you open the program, select UK, connect and watch iPlayer).

Sure give the free iPlayer abroad options a try, but you will most probably regret it.

Election Fever Giving Problems for iPlayer

It might well be a hung parliment but that fact is the massive amount of interest in the UK elections have resulted in many BBC services not working too well at the moment! If anybody tried to watch the BBC coverage of the Spanish GP online today they may well have been met with blank screens!

So if you are testing out Identity Cloaker to watch BBC iPlayer abroad and its not working quite how you would hope then give it some time and try again as the problems are at the BBC end of things!

Watch Uk Election Night TV from ITV, Sky and the BBC Abroad

Watch the UK Election Coverage while AbroadAfter a month, or was it several years, the close battle for who with run the next UK Government is perhaps coming to an end (well assuming there is not a hung parliament!). Those of you living abroad but with close ties to the UK may well want to enjoy the UK Election TV coverage abroad, and of course as always you can!

With most programs starting around 10pm UK time you can watch using Identity Cloaker anywhere in the world on:

If you don't already have Identity Cloaker then don't worry as the signup process only takes a few minutes, and if all you want to watch is tonight election broadcasts then the 10 day trial for 5 Euros is all you need (and don't worry at the end of the trial the subscription DOES NOT auto renew). If you want to know how to setup Identity Cloaker to watch BBC iPlayer Abroad along with all the other UK TV channels then take a look at our simple guide.

BBC Goes Flash Only

As some of you have read the BBC has gone flash only for it's delivery of iPlayer, though it's still working fine on the non-flash iPhone.

So what effect has this had on watching BBC iPlayer abroad? None.

Please continue watching and enjoying BBC programs as before!

iPlayer Abroad on the iPhone

I have been using this to watch iPlayer abroad on my iPhone for quite some time now but only recently have I been given permission to let you all know how to do this!

Firstly as always you are going to need an account with Identity Cloaker, no they don't have an official iPhone version (yet) but you can still use their service!

Once you are up and running with Identity Cloaker on your PC (or Mac, yes Mac version is almost ready!) just lookup the IP address of one of the UK servers (those are the sets of numbers that go XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX)

Now this only works with WiFi connections at the moment, a limitation put in by the guys at Apple, so if you don't have WiFi at home go to McDonalds and use their free WiFi!

One you phone go to 'Settings' then 'WiFi' and click on the blue arrow to the right of the WiFi point you are using. This will bring up all the advanced details of this connection, you want to scroll to the bottom where it says 'HTTP proxy' and change this to 'Manual'

You now have some new settings, which you should fill in as follows:

  • Server: use the IP address you took from the program already
  • Port: 4040
  • Authentication: Change to 'On'
  • Username: Your Identity Cloaker username, same as you would use when using Identity Cloaker on your PC
  • Password: Your Identity Cloaker password, same as you would use when using Identity Cloaker on your PC

Now just click back to the WiFi section and press the Home button. Now you can open Safari and visit the BBC iPlayer Website and watch iPlayer on your iPhone anywhere in the world!

If you have problems try a different IP address, just be sure to pick one from the UK!

Hulu Still Free, So Keep Watching!

It was reported in several places in 2009 that Hulu would stop being free (Gizmodo, REWLS), with reports that this will start in 2010. Now nothing was officially said, and other quotes do seem to indicate that at least some content would remain free.

However right now its ALL FREE so enjoy it today and don't worry about what may come tomorrow!

Hulu employs slightly better protection than most online TV package, yes even better than the BBC as its really very easy to watch BBC iPlayer abroad compared with Hulu! However as always Identity Cloaker has the solution and all you need to do is use the VPN option to ensure you can watch Hulu outside the US. You can see a demonstration of how this works, and Hulu in action from the sunny climate of Australia, right here in the US TV section.

Christmas with Auntie

I have just taken a look at what is on TV this Christmas here in Australia. Well ABC1, the equivalent of BBC1, is running with the 1956 classic The Man Who Knew Too Much. In fact they are showing the same film twice!

So if your local TV is as dire as this, why not treat yourself to a bit of proper Christmas fun and see what Auntie (the BBC) is broadcasting for you through BBC iPlayer!

You can be watching BBC iPlayer outside the UK in just a few minutes through Identity Cloaker. Or of course you can catch up with all the other UK TV stations, as well as many US and European ones. Check out the videos on this site to see how easy everything is to setup.

They have packages for as little as 10 day, so you can just subscribe for Christmas if that's all you are interested in.

Give it a go, I am sure you will not be disappointed!

Merry Christmas!

Download DRM free from BBC iPlayer Abroad

I have already covered how to download from BBC iPlayer outside the UK (you will need to use the VPN function) however these videos are all DRM protected and you can only watch them for a certain amount of time. There are various rather tedious way to convert the videos to a none-DRM version, however there is a rather neat utility you can use to download the videos directly from the BBC DRM free. iPlayer Downloader is a free tool which downloads MP4 versions of programs on BBC iPlayer, and you can use it while abroad if you have a copy of Identity Cloaker.

I will put a video up showing how to use it after Christmas, but it's pretty easy to use if you want to give it a go now. Simply download the program and run it, then start up Identity Cloaker and use the VPN option (this will not work through proxy at the moment) select one of the MAC compatible UK servers and connect as you would normally do. Now visit the BBC iPlayer website and slect the program you want to watch, when the program starts take a look at the URL in your browsers address bar, it will look something like this:

hXXp://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00pftz5/The_Hairy_Bikers_Twelve_Days_of_Christmas/

All you need to do is copy the bit I have highlighted in yellow in to iPlayer Downloader and click 'Download'

After a short time your program will be downloaded and ready to watch whenever you want. As the program downloads the MP4 version you can even upload the video direct to your iPhone or iPod if you like.
