iPlayer Abroad on the iPhone/iPad

We have covered the topic of how to watch BBC iPlayer on the iPhone, while abroad of course, in the past. However it is much easier now than ever before as the guys over at Identity Cloaker have simplfied the process.

As you may be aware it is not possible to run Identity Cloaker on the iPhone, and it is unlikely given all the restrictions made by Apple that it ever will. However all iPhones have the ability to create a VPN and use it.

To create a VPN on an iPhone you need to follow these instructions:

First contact Identity Cloaker support and tell them you want to access through your iPhone, they will then send you a special secret code and list of servers.

Then go to Settings, then VPN (the third option in the list underneath ‘Airplane Mode’ and ‘WiFi’.

Then press ‘Add VPN Configuration’

Select ‘L2TP’ and fill in the rest of the details as per the instructions you get from Identity Cloaker support, it will look something like this:

Now whever you want to watch BBC iPlayer on your iPhone/iPad (or even Sky Go) you just need to turn the VPN on first by going to:

Settings > VPN

And press the on/off button.

Right now the VPN function works for the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, France and Ireland.
